hello! i saw your post on this topic and wanted to provide some information! i really love stones, so i was pretty excited about this post… the previous user who said that you can cleanse in moonlight, with water and with salt/saltwater or dirt is correct. here are a few more things to know about that!
- that some stones cannot go in water (such as selenite) because they will be damaged (or in the case of selenite, will dissolve…)
- some stones cannot be placed in salt because it will hurt or scratch them. this includes some quartz, as well as porous stones. if you get into geology and figure out the hardness of whatever stone you have (this isn’t too hard to look up!) that can help you.
- if you really want to clean a stone with salt, sit it in some salt on a dish for a while, and that can help to cleanse it. putting it inside a circle of salt is good too, but most stones will be okay sitting in some salt for a little while as long as it isn’t submerged.
- if you want to cleanse a stone with water but it doesn’t take well, just hold it under running water for a little while, then dry it carefully and it should be alright.
- if you want to put a stone in the sun, be careful! some stones will fade in colour. some that fade are amethyst, citrine, rose quartz, and some other stones. it’s best not to leave them there for too long.
- moonlight is a-ok for most stones!
- if you want to put a stone in the ground, i would recommend making sure that it isn’t too porous of a stone so that a lot of dirt and such doesn’t get into the nooks and crannies. it’ll also be hard to wash it later since porous stones should not spend too much time getting wet.
some other methods of cleansing stones are:
- using incense or a smudge stick and passing the stone through the smoke while concentrating on it. some good cleansing scents are rosemary, sandalwood, and of course sage. i also like opium for this. it’s strong and has a nice feeling (to me). jasmine is also nice.
- holding the stone in your hand and visualizing any negativity coming out of the stone (even if you’re good at visualization, it’s good to cleanse a stone with a more ‘solid’ method, too, i think)
- putting the stone in a satchet with some cleansing herbs. some good herbs for cleansing are rosemary and cedar. of course there are many, many others. you can also imbue the stones with different feelings while or after cleansing them. if you’d like them to keep negativity away, you could set them with some basil, rosemary, or cloves, for example. if you’ve gotten stones from somewhere, putting them with peppermint can be good to brush off old negativity from previous owners. you can also just brush the stones with a sprig of the herb or set it on top for a night or two ( as long as you want!)
- you can pass the stones over flame (carefully!) while concentrating on their cleansing
- you can use other stones to cleanse them, namely amethyst and citrine. some say that these stones, amethyst especially, need not be cleansed themselves, but i personally think that it’s good to do it anyway, especially if you’re using them to cleanse other stones. setting a stone for cleansing on top of a large piece, or with a grouping of smaller ones is good for that. if you want to put a feeling into another stone (especially quartz crystal) set it with stones/herbs/items that evoke that feeling! if you want a quartz to have a warm, loving feeling, interact with/hold it for a while and concentrate on that. you can put it with some rose quartz, as well as chamomile, rose petals/hips or whatever else makes you feel those things (even heart shaped memorabilia would work)
anyway anyway i’m getting kind of off track! there is some advice for the cleansing and care of stones. remember to keep them physically clean too! washing/wiping them carefully (some stones can take it, but i think it’s good not to have stones submerged for -too- long, especially with salt) and keeping them dust free is good. a clean stone is a happy stone @’v’@ !
i hope this advice has helped you out, friend! good luck on your stone journeys! if you have any other questions, please feel free to shoot me an ask and i would be happy to help!
