The theory is, because we know they have to form at such extreme pressures and rise to the surface very quickly (or else they will just turn back to shitty graphite before they get to the surface), they shoot up from the mantle super fast in things called kimberlite pipes. It's actually pretty boss. Noone has observed it happening yet though. On that note, my fellow geologist bf gave me an alexandrite ring instead :)
Don’t get me wrong, totally cool. I’ll compare it to not going for the popular guy/girl in high school, but rather the intelligent artist.
