daisies-and-sunshine-deactivate asked: To the anon about quartz "cleavage"... you're right, it doesn't cleave. If it breaks, it has conchoidal fracture or just some sort of fracture. But when it FORMS, it can form nice crystals like in that picture if it cools slowly enough... when it cools slowly, the atoms and electrons and whatnot have time to arrange themselves nicely in the crystal shape. But they can also cool more quickly and make not as nice and pretty shapes. It just depends on how long it takes to cool and harden.
